Get the cleanest cutout
- Face a window or lamp so your face is evenly lit, and avoid bright light behind you.
- Sit in front of a background that contrasts with your hair and clothes.
- In Settings, turn on Refine Edges and raise Edge Stability.
- Set Quality to Best if your Mac has headroom, or Fast if it's busy.

How do I remove the background from my webcam on a Mac?
Open Lil Floaty Cam and turn on Remove Background. It separates you from your background in real time using your Mac's built-in machine learning, with no green screen.
Do I need a green screen?
No. It works in a normal room with a normal webcam. Even, front-facing light and a background that contrasts with you give the cleanest edges.
Is my video sent to the cloud?
No. Background removal runs entirely on your Mac. There's no account, and nothing is uploaded.
How is this different from background blur in video call apps?
Blur and virtual backgrounds in call apps only work inside that app, and you still sit in a rectangle. Lil Floaty Cam cuts you out completely and floats you over your whole screen, so you appear on top of whatever you're showing in any app, recording or stream.
Why do the edges of my cutout flicker?
Turn on Refine Edges, raise Edge Stability, or set Quality to Best in Settings. Better lighting helps most.
