Loom alternative for Mac

A lightweight Loom alternative for Mac

If the part of Loom you actually use is your camera floating over your screen, Lil Floaty Cam does just that, in a small native Mac app. Record with the tools you already have, keep your files on your Mac, and pay once instead of every month.

Why I made it

When I show clients how something works, I'd usually reach for Loom. But the main thing I used was my camera floating over my screen. So I built a lightweight app that does exactly that, and does it with a real background-removed cutout instead of a circle.

Questions

Is Lil Floaty Cam a Loom alternative?

For one part of Loom, yes: putting your face on screen while you record or share your screen. Lil Floaty Cam floats your camera, with the background removed, over any app and lets you record with whatever tool you like. It doesn't host or share videos, so if you need instant share links and viewer analytics, Loom is still the better fit.

Does Lil Floaty Cam upload my videos?

No. It has no account and no cloud. Your camera is processed on your Mac, and your recordings are saved wherever your screen recorder saves them.

Can I use Lil Floaty Cam and Loom together?

Yes. Some people use Lil Floaty Cam for the background-removed cutout and still record with another tool. Any recorder that captures your screen captures Lil Floaty Cam too.

What's the cheapest way to record my screen with my face on a Mac?

macOS can already record your screen for free with Shift-Command-5 or QuickTime Player. Add Lil Floaty Cam ($3.99 once) to float your camera, with the background removed, on top of everything while you record.
