Common questions
How do I install the download from Patreon?
Download the DMG attached to the Lil Floaty Cam post, open it, and drag Lil Floaty Cam into your Applications folder. Then open it from Applications. It appears in your menu bar.
How do I get updates?
The Patreon version updates itself. It checks when it launches, and you can choose Check for Updates… from the menu bar at any time. Updates are free for life. See what's new in the changelog.
The camera is black or says access is required
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and turn on Lil Floaty Cam, then choose Retry Camera in the app's Settings. If another app is using the camera, quit it and try again.
How do I use my iPhone as the camera?
Lil Floaty Cam works with Continuity Camera. Put your iPhone nearby, then pick it from the Camera menu. It can take a few seconds to appear. If it doesn't show up, plugging your iPhone into your Mac with a cable usually makes it appear.
How do I record myself with my screen?
Open Lil Floaty Cam and place your head where you want it. Then open QuickTime Player and choose File → New Screen Recording, or use any other screen recorder, like OBS or screen sharing in a video call. Turn on Streaming Mode to hide the border, handles and buttons from your recording.
The cutout edges flicker
Click the Lil Floaty Cam icon in the menu bar and choose Settings… (or press Command-Comma) to open the full Settings window. Under Camera, turn on Refine Edges, raise Edge Stability, or switch Quality to Best. Even, front-facing light and a background that contrasts with your hair help most.
I can't click the app behind my head
With Remove Background on, clicks outside your cutout already pass through. Turn on Hide Camera on Mouse Over to click through your head too.
How does the free version work?
The App Store version is free for 5 minutes of camera time each day. A one-time Unlock Forever purchase removes the limit. There's no subscription.
I bought it on another Mac. How do I unlock it here?
Sign in with the same Apple Account and click Restore Purchase on the unlock screen or in the app's Settings.
How do I get a refund?
App Store purchases are refunded by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
